Chobee
I got Chobee from Brazoria, TX from a breeder when she was 9 weeks old. At that time I did not have Respecting All Wildlife, Inc. I was doing fundraising for various animal rescue groups in this area. I built a 1 0x10x6 cage in my living room, according to the law.
Chobee was not fed properly and she developed rickets. She was fed Science Diet Feline Growth by the breeder. Servals need chicken, beef, fish & lots of vitamins. She was so tiny and the vet put a cast on her back leg. I stayed with her 24/7 & she was just horrible, so uncomfortable. During that time we bonded & Chobee started to trust me. Chobee turned 4 years one in April 2005. Chobee has now developed severe fatty tissues & our medical expenses have doubled trying to find out the cause of this problem. Her blood work & tests have come back normal. We are now consulting with a holestic vet in Australia who used to live in South Africa and is very familiar with Servals.
A couple of years ago, I felt Chobee needed a friend, because whenever I was not in the same room with her she screamed at the top of her lungs for my attention. While I was doing a fundraiser, Sue Arnold ( Arnold's Wildlife & Rehab) told me she had a beautiful serval I could have. I thought Chobee would at last be happy. Well, Chobee hated little Kowia. She was so jealous I thought she was going to kill him. So, i built another 10x10x6 cage in my living room with a lock out area. The two enclosures are connected now and the Servals just love it. I also put a small kids pool in one area & they leap & jump in it, as though they were catching prey…Servals are great swimmers in Africa, so they really get a kick out of their pool. Unlike Servals in the wild, since Kowia and Chobee were born in captivity they prefer air conditioning.
After Kowia was around 6 months old, Chobee decided she liked him & they are together, running, playing & bonded like two peas in a pod. Kowia has a totally different personality. He yells like a normal cat for attention & Chobee hisses at him at the drop of a hat. Both servals think I am momma serval. when I go into their enclosure they fight for my attention, Chobee drools all over me and Kowia kisses me like crazy.
I feel so honored to be accepted by these two loving beautiful animals. It is very expensive to feed the two servals & their vet bills are high, since they need an exotic vet. We have a vet that wants to helps Chobee www.holisticvets.co.nz.

Servals can live approx. 19 yrs. in captivity if cared for properly. I hope and pray that I can find some one who believes as I do and can donate enough money for property. I want to build a small educational facility to teach children especially and be able to rescue some class 2 animals. class 1 is: tigers, lions, leopards....they are very difficult to care for, takes a lot of money. I would like to concentrate on servals, cougars, bob cats, etc.
I take Kowia to pre schools, day care centers, regular schools (kids of all ages) university, assisted living centers & nursing homes, birthday parties, festivals, public and private events, & local businesses. I give an animal presentation and gear my focus to whatever age group I am addressing. I also do a question and answer session including traits of wild cats in their natural habitat and in captivity.
Right now i need to earn money for vet care MickeySue the singing beagle mix has severe allergies that is very costly. Also Frontline and Advantage for all of the animals on a monthly basis.
I am trying to get materials for an extra room i have that i don't use. it is alongside of the living room where the servals are and I want to open up that space and give them an extra 10x10, but it means flooring, drywall, ceiling & caging materials.
| We were guests at the Platinum Coast Cat Fancy Show in July in Ft. Myers. Thousands of people strolled by to catch a look at Kowia, Serval. We had beautiful t-shirts printed with a picture of Chobee & our motto, which is: All Animals Give Us Unconditional Love. Local animal shelters from Lee & Collier Counties brought cats of all ages for adoptions too. |

The day of Hurricane Dennis, China, the Boston Terrier saved a morning dove. She would not stop barking & sure enough, one had fallen out of a tree in our back yard. I gathered it up carefully & put it is a small carrier to keep it quiet & safe. Contacted Crow on Sanibel Island & they gave me directions to a local vet who was still open for a few hours, even during the hurricane. Needless to say, the roads were empty & my mission was to save this bird's life.
I did follow up on the health of the dove. Unfortunately It didn't make it after two days of medical care. Crow Rehabilitation Center in Sanibel is an excellent facility & I know they did their best. |

We now have a listing on petfinders.com
Spending a lot of time, money and energy on domestic rescue. It cost $100 just to see if a domestic cat has feline aids & shots. It is so important to have the cats fixed too, prior to adoption. We are having a rainy season here in Fort Myers, Fl. & it has been impossible to take Kowia out into the public for outside fundraising. Still our vet & food bills continue.
