Disease Prevention for Koi and Goldfish

Any Koi or Goldfish you have in your pond or fish tank that have not been treated for gill flukes, you should assume they have them! Gill flukes particularly put your fish under stress when your water warms up during the Summer and can cause death when heavy rains enter your pond. The easiest way to prevent this is with a dose of Prazi in the Spring or early Summer, or for that matter if you have not done it at all, do it now! Prazi is not toxic to fish and is a very safe drug to use.

Another problem that many people have is bacterial infections. How many times have I heard: "The fish died and there not a mark on them!" Normally when we see this, the cause is internal bacterial infection! The easiest way to prevent this is to treat your pond every Spring and Fall with Proform C. Dose your pond four times with the dose spaced every three days, at a dose of 100ml per 1,000 gallons. This dose schedule is different from that on the bottle, but will be more effective against parasites and bacteria!
