For Ferrets Only
Ask Angela

Raw vs Cooked Diets:

QUESTION:
Should you give your ferret raw meat or cooked. What about liver. I see in ferret food and ferret lax there is liver.

ANSWER:
You can give either, however you would not want to give either as the ferret's 'total' diet and you would need to make sure his diet is balanced.

On my website you will find an article: RETHINKING THE FERRET DIET by Dr, Susan Brown, an expert on ferrets and longtime ferret owner. The article lists places you can buy frozen 'mice', which would be more wholesome/complete.

My ferrets are fed a mixture of natural ferret and cat food, plus everyday they get WHOLE COOKED CHICKEN. I cook the chicken with skin, bones, gizzard, liver, heart etc.. and then liquefy at high speed on a blender along with the water from cooking (after removing some of the larger bones). Then I pour it through a 'jam' sieve to make sure there are no sharp pieces of bone left in.

For only one or two ferrets, this mixture can be put in small containers/plastic bags and frozen, then can be warmed when ready to serve. Since the enzymes have been cooked out, then you will need to ADD enzymes to the food before serving, I add FERRETZYME, which is available on my site.
