Oozing Ulcers:

QUESTION:
My ferret has a ulcer looking bump right by her behind and it is oozing with yellow colored stuff. I put medicine to help it heal but it hurts her so much when I touch it. I was wondering what I could do to help her. I have read up on Mast cell tumors and I'm not as worried as I was but I am still very concerned. Also can this spread to other ferrets because I have another one as well.

ANSWER:
Does the liquid coming out have a smell? You should go to the vet to find out exactly what it is as it could be an 'anal sac' that is oozing! Or it could be an abscess. Also if it is infected it will only get worse, the vet will be able to advise you.

I doubt it will spread to your other ferrets from your description, but I do recommend you see a vet as soon as possible, until then, try soaking her in a warm bath and carefully and gently help expel whatever liquid you can. Do this a couple of times a day and then put some Neosporin or antibiotic ointment on the area, hold her for about 5 minutes so she will not lick it all off.
