Flea Control:

QUESTION:
I've been using Advantage for kittens which I originally found about on your site a while back, but I'm question on how much do I use? I get the smallest size they have available which is for kittens 9 lbs. and under, problem is my girls are small for their age. My oldest (who is the smaller of the 2 at 650-700 grams depending on the season) is going to be 3 at the end of this month and her sister (675-715 varies on season) will follow mid Oct. Both of them are constantly mistaken for kits due to their size, but always been this way and been healthy and happy. But even with their size I was told by my vet to use the whole vile of med on them, and I'm just wondering about this. It hasn't caused any problem with my oldest but her sister gets red blotches after words, but I think this is from her scratching the area afterwards as I hold them until it dries and nothing shows. Even this should I cut back on the amount I put on them once a month during flea season?

ANSWER:
You really only need a quarter of the tube of ADVANTAGE, try to get a syringe with needle and pull up .2 ccs( the tube has .8ccs(ml) in it), you will have enough for 2 months. A whole tube is waaaaaaaaaay too much, I am so glad your ferrets have not been harmed, but I would mention it to your vet!

QUESTION:
I saw where you said to buy Advantage for fleas, is that the only drops you can use and do you buy it for cats? I have no idea how our Ferret even got fleas.

ANSWER:
Fleas can come into the home, just from one of you bringing them in from anywhere you might have been where there were fleas, a vet's office, neighbors etc.

The dog and cat ADVANTAGE are the same strength, there is more in the tube for larger animals. You only put 2 'tiny' drops on the ferret, so it has to be drawn out of the tube with a syringe and then 2 tiny drops from the needle onto the skin, will do.

You can only buy it at the vets, so it would be best that you ask them to show you how and then you will be able to do it yourself, when the need arises.

It is very important to get rid of those fleas as fast as you can, for ferrets they can be deadly! I have seen several ferrets die from anemia caused by fleas and it was so unnecessary.
