When to have Fixed?:

QUESTION:
I have a small female ferret. I got her in January and she was very small. How much time do I have to get her spayed before she goes into heat? How will I know if she goes into heat?

ANSWER:
Where did you get your ferret, was it from a breeder? Most ferrets in the US are already spayed, what country are you in? If she is a breeding ferret then she may start her heat cycle at 4 months of age, when she comes into heat her vulva will swell. She needs to be spayed as soon as the vulva starts to swell so check her every day and make sure you have a ferret knowledgeable vet ready to do the surgery, it cannot wait.
