QUESTION:
I have a hunting ferret who is in heat for six or seven weeks what should i do?
Is to late to get her spayed or will I be able to do it the next time she
comes in heat and do you have to do it every year or just once?
ANSWER:
If your ferret is in heat it most likely will be too
late to spay her, but you really need to get her
to a vet as soon as possible to get ger a hormone
shot to take her out of heat! Ferrets do not go out
of heat unless they are given the shot or bred with
a male ferret. if you do nothing she will most likely
die, as she will develop asplastic anemia (if she
hasn't already) from being in a prolonged state of
estrus.
