Escaping from Cage:

QUESTION:
The other day I bought a female ferret about 12 weeks old and it kept slipping through the sides of the cage. We bought a small pet carrier. Do you Know what we can do to keep it from slipping out of the cage so we don't have to keep it in the carrier?

ANSWER:
What kind of cage do you have, is it for a ferret? The wire should be no wider than 1" for the ferret not to escape. Are you leaving food and water available 24 hours a day so she can put on a little weight, if she is too thin?

If you cannot afford to buy her a new cage, then I would go to Home Depot and buy a roll of 1/2" hardcloth (wire) and wrap it around the cage, secure it with plastic ties or baggie ties, until she is large enough not to be able to escape!
