Dog Food and Ferrets:

QUESTION:
My ferret keeps getting into the puppies dog food and I try to keep him away from it but he will sneak into the puppies bowl while they are eating and run off with a piece of dog food. I have put him in the other room when the puppies are eating. I put the dog food up as soon as they are done eating. He doesn't get into it all the time, just when he sneaks pass me. Could the dog food hurt him in anyway or is it bad for him, I love my ferret and I don't want nothing to happen to him, he is going to the vet for an check up. Thank you for any help you may have to offer.

ANSWER:
Dog food is not high enough in MEAT PROTEIN AND FAT for a ferret, so as a staple diet it could be very harmful. However a little snack once in a while (very rarely) will not hurt.

When the puppies are eating why don't you give the ferret a healthy snack of CHICKEN/TURKEY BABYFOOD on a little dish, at the same time. He will enjoy the company and the not feel left out plus the food will be an excellent supplement for him.
