QUESTION:
Hello My name is tammy I have two ferrets one is 3 years
and the other is 4months . My 4mon old has a cough
and he is eating good and very active . He only coughs
at night its a hard deep cough. is there anything
I can get or should i take him in to see the doc
. Like i said he don't act like he feels bad just
that cough at night.

Do you have a ferret knowledgeable
vet? Your ferret may have an allergy, or he could
have something else going on, it would be hard to
say. If it is something serious he may need an antibiotic,
but if it is just an allergy then a children's cough
syrup may help, such as Robitusin, but it is best
to seek advice from your vet.
Do you have any mold in the ferret room? We had
a water leak and one of my ferrets hacked, mostly
at night from the mold it caused. Once we rectified
the problem he was fine after that, although we tried
several treatments to help, once the mold was gone
so was the cough!
What kind of litter are you using, if dusty it can
cause respiratory problems, also pine and cedar do
the same thing. One ferret may not be affected but
another more sensitive one will be.
