QUESTION:
When my ferret is asleep, I can HEAR him breathing (kind of a wheezy whistle).
Also, he seems to "wheeze" while running around playing. Can ferrets
have asthma? If so, is there anything to help them?
ANSWER:
Yes, it is possible for ferrets to asthma and allergies.
What kind of litter are you using as sometimes pine/cedar
chips can cause respiratory problems? Also breathing
difficulties could indicate an infection/tumor in
the lung and HEART problems.
You need to have an X-ray and a good check-up done
by a ferret knowledgeable vet ASAP.
